How Users Read on the Web

After reading (Re: scanning) Nielsen's article, I realize how often I simply skim text on the web. Honestly if an online article isn't direct and to the point, I just can't be bothered with it. I think a lot of that has to do with the way we consume media. We live in an age where literally every form of media is at our immediate disposal. So, since it is all so readily available, we've come to expect the information to sink in just as quickly. We've grown accustomed to getting the gist of things. If an article is too long winded, we just move on to the next tidbit of media.

I've never printed out an article unless I absolutely had to for a class. I suppose it goes back to our rate of consumption. We can't be bothered to print out an article we can't be bothered to read.
